The extraordinary energy of the grassroots campaign is because there are tens of thousands of people who believe that Nashville can do more than just maintain the good that's been done already, and who understand that, unless we stand our ground in aspiring to something different, we cannot complain about being run over by traditional politics.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37350887.post-541294310171601632007-07-26T09:55:00.000-07:002007-07-26T09:55:00.000-07:00You are entitled to that perspective, and you make...You are entitled to that perspective, and you make a great point. Any comparison with Nader is ridiculous. David Briley DOES have chances that are much better than the so-called conventional wisdom. The ground operation is working, there is great commitment and energy among his supporters, 12% of the projected turnout are specific voters commited by name to Briely, and the work continues.I attended a great event last night with a wide range of supporters who are working tirelessly during this final push to election day. Polls, TV ads, and yard signs don't vote. People vote. So, thanks for the reminder. We need to focus on the opportunity to win.Alan Coverstonehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04922440215627692321noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37350887.post-51547249602972774142007-07-26T09:18:00.000-07:002007-07-26T09:18:00.000-07:00"Democracy means voting for the person you find be..."Democracy means voting for the person you find best suited for the job."

Democracy is not myopic.

The goal of voting is to secure the outcome the voter considers "best," not to make a hollow gesture. Ask those Nader supporters how they feel?

You can certainly argue that Briley's chances are not as bad as some believe, but it is ludicruous to argue that one should vote his or her true preference even when that candidate has no chance of winning.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
